November 2019

17 November 2019

Yes, it's been a whole 17 days since the new month started and this is the first post. And the reason for that is there has been little to nothing happening, except work, and some very, very hot weather.

The harvest started off poorly, and has continued along the same vein. Tonnage has been low and the growers are hunting for grain. We joke with them about having a magnifying glass on the front of the header to find it, and they all agree it has been a tough year. But they are thankful they are getting some return on their investment, and we are grateful for the work.

Joanne and I are the only ones on the ground, and it looks like that will continue with the minimal staffing levels. The weather for the past week has been very hot and over 35 degrees C, and yesterday and today are over 42 degrees C. So regular drinks, electrolyte icy poles and a stop in the shade are the order of the day in between unloading trucks. And, of course having to be in steel capped boots, long trousers and a long sleeve high vis shirt doesn't help. But, we are thankful for the work, and are hoping it will go for a few more weeks.

Photography has taken a back seat, though I have taken a few little trips around to see if I can find some interesting compositions, but it is hard when there are kilometres of open cropping land and very few tree's, or other subjects of interest. But that is okay as well, because a break often does one good, or so I keep telling myself.

And so another month ends and the year of 2019 begins to close.

Mark Twain once said "...years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do that by the things you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbour. Catch the trade winds in your sails. Explore. Dream. Discover." - and so we will.
